Bernie Fabiosa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernard "Tough Job" Fabiosa played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for the Crispa Redmanizers in the early 1970s. His teammates were Alberto Guidaben, Atoy Co, Freddie Hubalde, Bogs Adornado, Philip Cezar and many more.

He was the one of the first "real" point guards in the PBA, not a fancy scorer but made his teammates better players when he was consistently among the top PBA players in steals and assists. After the Redmanizers disbanded, Fabiosa also played for Shell, Great Taste, Purefoods and Swift Hotdogs teams up until 1991 when his basketball career was slowed down with a collar bone injury. He later retired and stepped away from the game of basketball and now resides at Los Angeles, California.

The original "Sultan of Swipes", he was a seven-time steals champion, four (4) with Crispa, two (2) with Shell and one (1) with Great Taste. He also topped the league in assists in 1981. He was a member of the Mythical Second Team in 1984.

He finished his PBA career with 6,597 points (8.4 ppg), 2,837 assists (3.6 apg) and 1,261 steals (1.6 spg) in 788 games played from 1975-1991 in 19241:00 total minutes played. He converted 1,414/1876 FTs for a career average of 75.4%.

After his playing days, he has ventured in the movies together with former Crispa teammate Atoy Co. Fabiosa also tried his hand in coaching as he coached the Bingo Pilipino Bingonaryos in the Philippine Basketball League.

He was inducted to the all-time PBA 25th anniversary team in the year 2000.
