Bernhard Wicki

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernhard Wicki (28 October 1919 in St. Pölten, Austria - 5 January 2000 in Munich) was an actor and director, famous for his anti-war film Die Brücke (The Bridge), in which seven youths, blinded by the propaganda of the National Socialist German Workers Party, defend their home town's strategically unimportant bridge from approaching forces of the United States Army during World War II. He fought in the Army against France in WW2, and his experiences affected both him and his films. As of 2000 there is a Bernhard-Wicki-Filmpreiss which awards 15,000 euros to upcoming Austrian film makers.
