Bermaga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bermaga is a derogatory term in Star Trek fandom used to refer collectively to Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. The two have widely been blamed for ruining the franchise.

Coined by "Keckler" at Television Without Pity[1], the term quickly spread throughout fandom. It even became used by people directly involved in Star Trek, most notably Jolene Blalock. [2]

While Berman and Braga both became involved in Star Trek during Star Trek: The Next Generation, the damaging influence of Bermaga is generally seen to have been greatest during Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise as well as some later Star Trek movies.

Since the demise of Star Trek, the term has been used as short-hand when discussing the quality of a science fiction show. For instance, former Star Trek writer Ron Moore, now show runner of the critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica, has been referred to as the anti-Bermaga.
