From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berkeley Zen Center[1] is a Soto Zen Buddhist sangha located in Berkeley, CA founded by Mel Weitsman and Shunryu Suzuki in 1967. In 1979 the Zen community moved to a new location in Berkeley where they named the new zendo Shogakuji (in memory of Suzuki). The zendo is still loosely referred to as The Berkeley Zen Center. Practice at Berkeley Zen Center includes residential and lay training.
