[edit] Vandalism
Hi Benjamin, You're listed on my talk page as someone I can ask questions to. A page I created was vandalized, and it's impossible to contact the user to complain. I have corrected the page, but isn't there some way to report vandals and prevent them from continuing? Going to the history page, there is no user name for the vandal, only a string of letters, 209.244.187.250, that leads to a so-called special page. Now when I make any edits on a page, my user name is clearly posted, and people can go to my page and leave comments. How is it that vandals can change a page without leaving their user name? And what can we do about this problem? Thanks in advance for your help. --Leghorn.
- Hello - sorry that i have not replied sooner - I was singing in Salzburg! - It is of course possible to post warnings on vandals' ip address pages. And some editors and all administrators have tools with which they can quickly track and revert anonymous vandals. It is hence very easy to undo and correct vandalism and to place warnings. If an anonymous ip address places consistent vandalism on wikipedia, they may be banned from editing for a short space of time or indefinitely. Allowing anonymous users to edit is incredibly important to wikipedia as a vast quantity of useful edits come from this source. The nature of wikipedia is such that it is important that everyone, whether registered users or not can edit. There are however, obvious benefits to being a registered user, and it is much better if a person is regularly editing for them to become a user.

[edit] Callas?
Hey Benjamin - you (re)added Maria Callas as a famous singer of the Queen of Night character. As far as I'm aware, Maria Callas did not possess the range needed to perform the Queen of the Night arias and certainly did not perform it professionally. Recordings going around p2p networks titled Maria Callas performing Der Hölle Rache etc. are falsely attributed to her. Thank you ~ User:john1987.
- Fair point - any recordings would certainly be from the begining of her career and in any case Callas was never really famous or notable for Mozart operas, more the romantics. B.S. 05 21:21, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
