[edit] The nature of his Senate term

Hopefully I have correctly interpreted that his term was for two years because JFK had not resigned to run for Presidency and so no election for his old Senate seat was held in 1960 - and the convention is to hold over until the next Congress elections are held - the elected person serving out the original term. Ted Kennedy was re-elected for an eighth(!) time (after 2 years plus 7 full terms) in the most recent elections.
