Benzotrichloride, is an organic compound which is a chlorinated derivative of toluene. It is principally used as a solvent and as an intermediate in the preparation of other chemical products such as dyes.

Benzotrichloride is produced by radical chlorination of toluene in presence or absence of phosphorus trichloride, catalysed by the light, or radical initiators such as dibenzoyl peroxide.
