Bentley Cricket Club is the oldest club in the Western Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association, having been founded in 1953. The club currently has six sides competing in grade 1,3,5,7,9 and One Day Competition division 2. This year, on the back of increased playing numbers, the club took the move to enter a sixth side for the first time in its history. The side won its first competitive match on October 21 2006 by 32 runs, showing the depth that the club has.

[edit] History

Formed under the name Bentley Park in 1953 with one team. The club won its first premiership in season 1958/59, in second grade, a fine achievement for a club with only one side. Club legends Geoff Farrall, Ralph Dungey, Brian Trouchet, Roy Ritchie and Ken Esmond were all members of this victoious side.

In 1962 the club moved to Wyong Park, still the club's home ground today. In 1973/74 the clube won its second premiership, this time in 3rd grade with Geoff Farrell once again in the victoious team, but this time his son, Stephen, in the side as well as current games and runs record holder Lloyd Dungey in the side, former coach Brian Hayward and club legends Stu Rankin and Greg Dart.

[edit] Awards

[edit] The Hayward Medal

The Hayward Medal was first struck in 1994/95 and is awarded at the end of every season to recognise the best player in the club's ‘A' grade team. The medal is donated by Club Life Members Brian & Andrew Hayward, who are both prominent members of the Bentley CC community

Brian Hayward commenced his career with Bentley in the 1971/72 season. Brian played 307 games with the club, scored 6128 runs, took 63 wickets and as a keeper, completed 200 catches and 13 stumpings. Brian played in 4 Premierships during his time at Bentley. Brian was named as the Captain of the Bentley Cricket Club's Team of the Half Century in 2003.

Andrew (Ace) Hayward commenced his career at the Bentley CC in the 1974/75 season. A fine all-rounder, Andrew played 234 games with the club, he scored 4920 runs, took 379 wickets and has taken 122 catches and completed 5 stumpings. Andrew played in 2 Premierships with the Bentley Cricket Club. Andrew was awarded a place in the Club's team of the Half Century in 2003.

Votes are allocated by the umpires in each ‘A' grade match, on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis to players of both sides. The WASTCA collates the votes during the season, and publishes the results at the end of the season. Past winners are listed below.

Ralph Dungey began his career with Bentley CC in 1955/56, and played until his death in 1972. Ralph was president from 1956 to 1972, the longest reign in the club's history. A wicketkeeper in the club's early days, he was also a useful batsman. Ralph is a life member of the club, as is his son Lloyd and his widow Betty, the latter who was inducted in 2006. Lloyd and his son Sheahan are still playing members today, Lloyd as one of the dominant batsmen in the lower grades, and Sheahan as a useful all-rounder in the club's bottom sides.

The trophy is awarded to the player who has scored the most number of points across the season without winning a trophy. Points are allocated on batting, bowling and fielding at the end each game with respect to the performance of every player.
