[edit] Early life
Benny Dunne was born in the parish of Toomevara, County Tipperary in 1980. He showed great skill as a hurler in his youth and quickly started playing with his local club in Toomevara, before he was spotted by the Tipperary inter-county selectors.
[edit] Playing career
[edit] Club
Over the last decade Dunne has had great success with the Toomevara club, beginning in 2000 when he won his first Tipperary SHC. In 2001 he captured his second county title. More success followed for Dunne, winning back-to-back county titles in 2003 and 2004, as well as winning a first Munster club title. In 2006 Dunne won his fifth Tipperary SHC title. He subsequently captured his second Munster title, however, his side lost in the All-Ireland club semi-final with Dunne's brother, Tommy Dunne, being controversially sent off.
[edit] Inter-county
In 2000 Dunne came to the attention of the Tipperary under-21 hurling selectors and he quickly joined the team. He played at this level without success until 2001 when he joined the Tipperary senior team. Dunne made his senior debut in a Munster Championship game against Clare in 2002. Since then he has lined out in every line of the field at inter-county level with the exception of goalkeeper. The subsequent few years, however, have proved frustrating for Dunne as Tipp failed to win any Munster of All-Ireland titles.
