Benighted Leams is a black metal project based in England. The project was founded in 1995 by Alex Kurtagić, also owner of Supernal Music, an underground record label specialising in extreme Metal.
In 1996 Supernal Music released Benighted Leams' first album, Caliginous Romantic Myth. The music was raw Black Metal, albeit unconventional, with sad atmospheres and presentation closer to Doom. This was followed in 1998 by Astral Tenebrion, whereby the archaising aesthetics of the debut gave way to themes inspired on cosmology and astrophysics. Its successor, Ferly Centesms, came six years later; although even more obscure and tortuous than its predecessors, sounding like a cross between Bethlehem (the German Dark Metal band), Possessed, and Voïvod, Ferly Centesms has enjoyed the most favourable reception of the three, named album of the month in various underground publications in 2004.
