Benedict Arnold (governor)

Benedict Arnold (21 December 1615–19 June 1678) was governor of Rhode Island.
He was governor during 1663-66, 1669-72, and 1677-78. He was born in England and in later life lived in Newport, Rhode Island.
Among many other achievements, he oversaw construction of Newport Tower (Rhode Island).
His father was William Arnold, and his great-grandson was the notorious American Revolution General Benedict Arnold.
