Benedetto II Zaccaria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benedetto II Zaccaria (died 1314), known as Paleologo, was the Lord of Chios and Phocea among other Aegean islands from 1307.

Paleologo was the son and successor of Benedetto I Zaccaria. On the death of his father, his cousin Tedesio Zaccaria, governor of Phocea, formed an alliance with the Catalans of Gallipoli against the Ottoman Turks. In 1313, he was forced to abandon the city to the Byzantines and temporarily retire to Thasos, where he died and was succeeded by Andreolo Cattaneo (died 1331).

Paleologo died in 1314 and was succeeded jointly by his cousins: Martino and Benedetto III.
