Benawi a character featured within the Japanese anime Utawarerumono, which is popular to a moderate extent.

A high ranking samurai leader serving under the country of Kenashikourupe. Benawi was ordered at many times by the inept emperor Inkara to subdue the growing Hakuoro, in which he had failed at many of these times partially due to his great respect to Hakuoro. Due to this fact, the exceedingly arrogant Nuwangi took his place as the new samurai leader under Inkara. Benawi managed to redeem himself however by personally dueling against Hakuoro when Hakuoro had invaded their head castle after Nuwangi had been defeated and captured with ease. Benawi, when determined that Inkara's rule is inevitably to become destroyed, flees. Benawi's subordinate, Korou keeps Hakuoro at bay while Benawi presents himself before the guardless, and hopeless emperor, Inkara. Benawi tells Inkara that his rule over the country can never live any longer, in which he should kill himself in honor. Inkara, who refuses due to wanting to have more women and various other barbaric needs, is soon killed by Benawi as to preserve what had been left of Inkara's honor. After Hakuoro catches up to Benawi just momentarily after this, Benawi attempts to commit suicide as to preserve his own honor towards his country, but is immediately stopped by Hakuoro's metal fan. Benawi, who is somewhat affected by this, joins under Hakuoro and gladly calls him upon his new title, Emperor. Benawi seems to also have a rather calm and rational type personality, in which he shall always choose the most logical conclusion to any conflict. Benawi also seems to be the closest of advisors under Hakuoro, as to the fact that he always seems to be at his call. While in battle, Benawi wields his halbeard with great prowess.
