Status is disputed with Grand Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger of Bobov

Grand Rabbi Ben Zion Aryeh Leibish Halberstam of Bobov (כ"ק אדמו"ר מבאבוב, שליט"א) was born in 1955 to Grand Rabbi Shlomo Halberstam of Bobov.

Following the death of his brother, Grand Rabbi Naftali Zvi Halberstam; the followers of Bobov disagreed as to who should succeed as Bobover Rebbe. Many Bobover Hasidim accepted as the successor his brother Rabbi Ben Zion Aryeh Leibish Halberstam; while many others have become followers of the late Grand Rabbi's son-in-law, Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger.

In the house of his brother-in-law, Rabbi Chaim Yaakov Tauber, Dayan of Bobov, before the funeral of Grand Rabbi Naftali Zvi Halberstam took place; his brother Rabbi Ben Zion Aryeh Leibish was crowned as his successor. This was announced in the presence of the lay president of Bobov Rabbi Moshe Meir Einhorn. He is presently Rabbi in the main synagogue on 48 Street and is refered to as "Bobov 48".
