Ben Taub General Hospital is a hospital in Houston, Texas.
It was opened in May 1963, and is overseen by faculty and staff from Baylor College of Medicine. It's located in the Texas Medical Center, and is part of the Harris County Hospital District.
Ben Taub General Hospital is a Level I trauma center, one of only two in the Harris County area. At 650 licensed beds, it is one of the nation’s busiest trauma centers, caring for over 108,000 emergency patients each year. Ben Taub also has the distinction of being the only hospital in the Med Center with a psychiatric emergency room open 24 hours a day.
The hospital was named after Ben Taub (1889-1982), a real estate developer and businessman whose extensive behind-the-scenes philanthropic efforts helped transform Houston.
