Ben Frost was born in Melbourne Australia in 1980. An Australian-based artist for the early years of his work (collaborations with such Australian artists as David Bridie and seminal rock band Something For Kate).

The explorations of Composer Ben Frost have developed as imaginary geographical spaces acoustically and formally, through the breadth and depth of his work. The scale is enormous, exploiting every extreme of pitch, volume and timbre over the course of each piece, recalling the unbounded enormity of the natural world. The changes in his music sometimes seem as gradual as changes in the weather—and sometimes as violent. These investigations have produced Music for Sad Children (2001, independently produced and released) and the widely acclaimed ambient guitar exploration Steel Wound (2003, Room40), which was described as "an exemplary ambient experience" by Pitchfork Media and the forthcoming release 'Theory of Machines' on the Icelandic record label Bedroom Community

"His work as dark as it is unafraid to punish its listeners, but for all the “machines” of the title, for all the cold restraints of form, this is a hot-blooded music—a human music—hypnagogically raw." -Adapted from the 'Theory of Machines' Liner notes by Daniel Johnson

In 2005 Frost relocated to and has since become a resident of Reykjavik, Iceland, where he has collaborated with Björk and (remotely) leads the band called School of Emotional Engineering. Operating solo, but under the moniker (which later became a 'band') 'School of Emotional Engineering' Frost released a self-titled full length album in 2005 which was also widely critically acclaimed- Db Magazine calling it "An Atmospheric Masterpiece...". Frost is the closest collaborator of Icelandic Producer/Engineer Valgeir Sigurðsson in Greenhouse Studios Reykjavik Iceland.

Ben Frost is commonly mistaken for Ben Frost (artist). There are in fact two well known Australian Ben Frosts, to confuse matters more both are of similar age and have collaborated on projects together.
