Bemolanga

Madagascar (Madagasikara)Bemolanga is the name of a large oil field in the onshore Morondava Basin of Madagascar discovered in the early 1900's. It is estimated to contain 21 billion barrels ultra heavy oil. Of this it estimated that 1 billion barrels of oil would be recoverable through open pit mining. The hydrocarbons are found in the Isalo and Amboloando formations covering an area of approximatley 400 sq km.
The source rocks for the Bemolanga Oil is believed to be the Karro formation of the Midle Sakamena Shale. The field has been lifted to its present near surface location due to the renwed uplifting and seaward tilting of the island of Madagascar during the Tertiary period.
The field is located north of the Tsimiroro heavy oil field and east of the town of Morafenobe.
