The Australian Poultry Cooperative Research Centre (Poultry CRC) is a joint venture established and supported under the Australian Government's Cooperative Research Centres Program.
The Poultry CRC performs research in order to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of the Australian egg and chicken meat industries. It aims to ensure the cost-effective and socially responsible production of safe, quality poultry products for domestic consumption in Australia and emerging export markets.
The Poultry CRC is directed by a governing board with an independent chairman and comprises representatives from the five core parties; three industry representatives; and the chief executive officer.
[edit] History
Established on July 1, 2003, the Australian Poultry CRC is an unincorporated joint venture between the University of New England, the University of Melbourne, the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, the Australian Egg Corporation Limited and Bioproperties Proprietary Limited.
Headquartered at the University of New England in Armidale, New South Wales, the Poultry CRC has an extensive collaborative network comprising researchers, educators and support staff from twenty-two participating organisations.
[edit] Programs

The research programs are geared towards the first three outcomes and focus on the following strategic areas:
- Enhanced quality and productivity using novel approaches to digestive physiology and metabolism of poultry (Program 1)
- Sustainable poultry health through discovery, development and application of emerging biotechnology (Program 2)
- Improved management of poultry welfare and the environmental impact of poultry production (Program 3)
The broad goal of the Poultry CRC's education and training program is to achieve an increased level of skills for all sectors of the Australian poultry industry.
