Belshazzar (Handel)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Belshazzar is an oratorio by George Frideric Handel. It was based on a libretto by Charles Jennens, which was considerably abridged by Handel.[1] Jennens libretto was based on the Biblical account of the fall of Babylon at the hands of Cyrus and the subsequent freeing of the Jewish nation, as found in the Book of Daniel.
Handel composed Belshazzar in the fall of 1744 and gave its premiere on the 27th of March, 1745.[1]
