Belmont, Bronx

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Belmont is a neighborhood in the Bronx in New York City, home to that borough's Little Italy. Among locals, the Belmont area is more commonly referred to as "Arthur Avenue", which is the main commercial street of the neighborhood. Despite the many Italian shops which line Arthur Avenue, Belmont actually has few Italian-American residents left; due to white flight, most of the area's residents have moved further east in the Bronx, to suburban Westchester County, or elsewhere.

Belmont is a subsection of the larger Fordham neighborhood. Belmont is bounded by Fordham Road on the north, the Bronx Zoo on the east, 183rd Street on the south, and Third Avenue on the west.

The 1993 film A Bronx Tale was set in Belmont, though it was actually filmed in Astoria, Queens.
