Bell Shakespeare Company
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bell Shakespeare Company is an Australian theatre company specialising in the works of William Shakespeare. It was founded in 1990 by John Bell.
Australia's only National touring company, it has recently performed Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, The Merchant of Venice and The Comedy of Errors. A consistent signature of the company is the consistent use of costumes and stages that are either contemporary or anachroistic, but never truly Renaissance in style. Unlike more traditional and "genteel" Shakespeare companies, Bell's band does not shy away from accentuating the sexual innuendos and general bawdiness of Shakespeare's original text.
