Belfield Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Belfield Park is the home stadium home of University College Dublin F.C.. It has capacity for 1,900 people, including 848 seats. It is located on the western edge of the Belfield campus off Foster's Avenue. The main stand is the covered AIB Stand, while the Foster's Avenue End, which had been closed for 2 seasons because the wooden floorboards were unsafe in wet weather, was recently re-opend for the start of the 2007 Summer Season with the bucket seats from the old Lansdowne Road, which is currently undergoing reneveations itself.. The stadium plays host to under-age Ireland international matches and senior international training sessions on occasion. Shamrock Rovers have also played some of their home games at Belfield Park since the Kilcoyne family sold Glenmalure Park for property development. 300 extra seats were temporarily added for the 2005 League Cup final against Derry City, which, together with the opening of the hill, increased capacity to 2,500.

It has been proposed that UCD may play their home games at the Belfield Bowl, home of the UCD rugby team, from the 2008 season. The Belfield Park site will be developed as the University Biotechnology Centre, at no profit to the club.
