Beitbridge

Beitbridge is a border town in province of Matabeleland South, Zimbabwe. It lies just north of the Limpopo River about 1 km from the Alfred Beit Bridge which spans the Limpopo River between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The main roads lead from the border 321 km north-west to Bulawayo and 281 km north-east to Harare via Masvingo. According to the 2002 Population Census, the town had a population of 22,387.

Beitbridge was established when the Alfred Beit Bridge was built in 1929. The bridge was constructed at a cost of $220 000 and financed jointly between the Beit Railways Trust and the South African Railways.
