Behrendt (variants: Behrend, Berendt, Berent, Behrends, Behrens) is a German family name, which is derived from the given name Bernd. As early as the 17th century, Berend (Berendt) was common in northern Germany. Then in the 19th century, Behrend is evident in Friesland. Used as patronymic (Berendsen, Berentzen, Berends) it turned into a family name.
