Behmenism
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Behmenism was a 17th Century European Christian movement based on the teachings of Jakob Böhme. It was not a formal religious sect, but a general description of Böhme's interpretation of Christianity. Its influence was particularly strong in England, where many Behmenists joined the Religious Society of Friends. However, it is often hard to tell whether those described as Behmenist were specifically aware of Böhme's writing, or had developed similar ideas independently or received them secondhand; "Behmenism" was sometimes used as a general description of any form of Protestant-based mysticism.
