[edit] Life

Hewitt began performing at the age of three, and has done catalogue work and voice-overs for many corporations. Hewitt's first commercial was My Little Pony, for American television, and since then Hewitt has appeared in more than fifty commercials.

A young Hewitt starred in an episode of Police Rescue in 1992, at the age of 9.

Hewitt came to prominence when she joined the cast of the Seven Network's soap opera Home and Away in 1999, playing Hayley Smith. Hewitt remained on the show until August 2005. Although she left the show, her character did not and Ella Scott Lynch took over the role of Hayley.

In 1999, Hewitt was nominated for a Silver Logie for Most Popular New Talent. She was also listed in WHO Weekly's "21 Hottest Stars Under 21". In 2002, Big Hit magazine's Reader Poll had Hewitt voted the Sixth Favourite Star in the World, the Second Best Female Star, and the Fifth Hottest Female Celebrity.

Hewitt featured in, and won, the first series of the Australian series Dancing with the Stars in 2004.

Hewitt won the Logie for Most Popular Actress in 2005, an award for which she is also nominated in 2006 along with the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality. During this time she was secretly three months pregnant with her daughter, Mia. The very next day, the news of Hewitt's pregnancy was leaked to the press.

In November 2006, she returned to TV for Abba Mania. Many Australian artists celebrated, and the show was broadcast on Channel Nine. However, Hewitt was publicly criticised for her performance as presenter with it being deemed one of the "worst television performances of 2006".

There is speculation that Hewitt will return to Home and Away in 2007[citation needed]

After leaving Home and Away in 2005, Hewitt now writes a column for the magazine Woman's Day.

[edit] Private life

From 2000-2004, Hewitt was involved with her on-screen boyfriend, Beau Brady. Shortly after their separation, she began dating Australian tennis player and long-time friend Lleyton Hewitt. After six weeks of dating, they announced that they were engaged.

The couple were married on 21 July 2005. The event was shrouded in secrecy, with reports of guests being required to sign confidentiality agreements. Despite this, they chose very public venues for the wedding (Sydney Opera House) and reception (Taronga Zoo). As a result, it was given much media attention.

On 5 May 2005, the Hewitts announced that Bec was pregnant, and by coincidence, Hayley Lawson, Cartwright's Home & Away character, was also pregnant. On 29 November 2005, she gave birth to a daughter, Mia Rebecca Hewitt, at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital.

Hewitt has also been voted FHM's sexiest woman in Australia.

She owns property with her husband in the Palm Beach area where Home and Away is filmed, but has recently moved into a joint property on the rural outskirts of Sydney in search of more privacy.
