Beatles_-_Abbey_Road.jpg (500 × 500 pixel, file size: 282 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Cover of The Beatles album, Abbey Road.

The view really is Abbey Road, London, NW8 looking north. The gates of the Abbey Road Studios are behind the white VW Beetle on the left, which, according to some proponents of the "Paul Is Dead" conspiracy theory, was parked there intentionally as a rebus.

There have been many homages to this iconic cover.

[edit] Fair use rationale

The image linked here is claimed to be used under fair use as:

  1. It is a low-resolution copy of an album cover,
  2. Its use here does not limit the copyright owner's ability to market the album in any way,
  3. It is being used for informational purposes only, not for profit,

Specifically,

  1. In The Beatles, it is the only album cover used to illustrate the recordings of The Beatles, and is an appropriate choice, as this cover is iconographic of The Beatles.
  2. In Abbey Road Studios, it is included as a famous picture referring to the recording studio. (Abbey Road Studios are on Abbey Road, just off the street shown on the cover).
  3. In The Beatles Discography, each Beatles album cover is included as part of the survey of The Beatles' musical publications.
  4. In Abbey Road (album), its inclusion is the only possible way to illustrate the subject of the article.
  5. In Abbey Road (street), it is included because the street is primarily known because of this album cover picture.
  6. In Here Comes the Sun, Because (The Beatles song), Polythene Pam, She Came in Through the Bathroom Window, Her Majesty (song), Mean Mr. Mustard, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, The End (The Beatles song), I Want You (She's So Heavy), Oh! Darling, Octopus's Garden, Sun King (song), You Never Give Me Your Money, Golden Slumbers, and Carry That Weight, it illustrates the album on which the song in question was released.
  7. In The Beatles Box Set and The Beatles Collection, it illustrates one of the albums included in the set.
  8. In "Paul is Dead" clues from Abbey Road, the album cover is analyzed in the light of the Paul is Dead urban legend.
  9. In Kosh (art director), it is used to illustrate one of the most famous albums designed by Kosh.
