Beaufort Castle, France
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beaufort Castle is located along the Loire river in the south of Le Puy-en-Velay near the village of Goudet in France. Known locally as Château Beaufort. It was built in the 13th century when the region was known as Anjou.
Perched on a rock headland overhanging the granitic rocks of Margeride, there remain today only the ruins of this fortress.
Robert Louis Stevenson stopped here on his trip documented in Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes (1879).
