Beat Circus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beat Circus is a band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 2002 by multi-instrumentalist / singer-songwriter Brian Carpenter. They describe their style as "American Gothic Music" and cite writer/artist Edward Gorey, author Flannery O'Connor, and the Brothers Grimm as influences. Macabre stories of turn-of-the-century Americana and dark cabaret songs are performed within a wide spectrum of musical styles including progressive rock, carnival music, Russian waltzes, traditional Spanish music, Romanian brass band music, and funereal music.
Their first CD Ringleader's Revolt was released by Innova Records in 2004. In 2005 they recorded cartoon music scored by Brian Carpenter for animator Lorelei Pepi. In 2006 they began recording their second full-length CD Dreamland with NYC producer Martin Bisi.
