Beardsley, Minnesota

Beardsley is a small city located in Big Stone County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the place had a total population of 262. Despite its small size, the community has incorporated with a city form of government.
Beardsley holds two state monthly record high temperatures, 111° F (approx. 44° C) in September, set in 1931, and 98° F (approx. 37° C) for October, reached in 1963, [1], and shares with Moorhead both the July record and the all-time state high temperature of 114°, reached in Beardsley on July 29, 1917.[2]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). All of this area is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 262 people, 125 households, and 71 families residing in the community. The population density is 215/km² (552/mi²). There are 148 housing units at an average density of 122/km² (312/mi²). The racial makeup of the place is 100% White (neither African American, nor Native American, Asian or others, and 0.0 % from two or more races. Three persons (1.1 %) are Hispanic or Latinos.
There are 125 households out of which 26.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46% are married couples living together, 7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42% are non-families. 40.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 25.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.10 and the average family size is 2.83 persons.
In the city the population is spread out with 24% under the age of 18, 3% from 18 to 24, 23% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 27% who are 65 years of age or older. The median (mean?) age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 88.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.6 males. Even though there are more females, sausage fests are still common place!
The median income for a household in the community is $26,429, and the median income for a family is $33,929. Males have a median income of $26,875 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,106. 12% of the population and 6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20% of those under the age of 18 and 15.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Remark: due to the small population, the actual percentages may have been changed since 2000 by 1-5% .
Students at the local High School find it funny to vandalize the Wheaton Minnesota Wiki. Even though some may find this childish, it is, in fact, common at the school since learning clearly isn't something they focus on!
