[edit] Welcome!

Hello, BCV, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

[edit] your user page image...

IS AWESOME. That is my favorite scene in Star Wars, even in the newer versions(where Haydne's head is superimposed over Shaw's(Vader). Just had to say that.:-)Voice of All(MTG) 05:44, July 30, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Recent changes to The West Wing personnel

Hi BCV. We've been moving templates and images in and out of tables, you and I, on many pages with people from The West Wing. Your changes look very fine in Internet Explorer and Opera, but in Firefox the template is placed to the left of the image :-( That means there is a lot of unused space right below the image, to the right of the template - try it for yourself.

Anyway, I'll try to find a solution that looks ok in Firefox as well. -Fred Bradstadt 08:26, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Danny Boy

The source of the lyrics is well known, so there is no need to speculate about its meaning. --Henrygb 10:15, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

Take this from the second external link: Lyrics written in 1910 by Frederick Weatherly (not Irish and without having heard the Londonderry Air); first recorded in 1915 by Ernestine Schumann-Heink (female); second verse particularly noted by Weatherby (who wrote 1500 songs) about the final words of Ellen Terry (female) before her death in 1928. So all the evidence, including the words themselves, suggest this a love song from a woman to a man and there is nothing to suggest that when the words were written it had anything to do with Ireland. You keep putting in speculation which has no basis in fact. --Henrygb 23:37, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Images

Image:Mel Carnahan.jpg and Image:Warren Hearnes.jpg was formerly labelled as being a work of the Missouri State Government. However, the template indicating that fact has been deleted after it was found that such work is not public domain. Could you please revisit the image's page and add an appropriate tag to it from Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Thank you. Note that the image will be deleted in 7 days time if it remains unlicensed. -Splashtalk 01:23, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Peer review for The West Wing

I have started a peer review of The West Wing at Wikipedia:Peer review/The West Wing (television) and I invite you to take part in the discussion and help make the necessary changes as the community as a whole reviews the work that we have all done together on this article. Thank you very much for your work on the article! -Scm83x 08:39, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Gallery

There is a discussion going on in the Big East Conference Talk Page concerning the use of logo galleries in football conference articles. The outcome of the discussion might influence the use use of galleries in all conference articles, so I thought you'd like to put forward your input. If you feel so inclined, please go and check it out and leave a comment. --ScottyBoy900Q 15:54, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] FAC for The West Wing (television)

I have put The West Wing article up as a candidate for featured article status. Your input and support in the FAC located here would be appreciated! Thanks! -Scm83x 08:55, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Just being a nice Wikipedian to inform you –

That I nominated your image upload of Image:2005 Big12logo.jpg for deletion due to someone's request for a PNG or SVG version of the logo. Probably not important to infrom you and you probably would not care that much but according to the instructions it is nice to inform you. :-P --J. Nguyen 22:45, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

I also updated the Nebraska logo. --J. Nguyen 03:34, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you reverted the A&M logo on the Big 12 Conference page. Of course A&M is a member of the B12 but the B12 does not control the logos of its members schools. Colorado just recently updated its logo and it is displayed on the page. The A&M T-star is a new, official, university sanctioned logo which will be our second primary logo. I added it to this page to help in our efforts to bring it into the public consciousness. Although not yet as synonomous with the university as the traditional aTm logo, we feel it represents the university well both as symbol of our great institution and state. I'm sure you may have thought that I replaced it with some different logo as a joke, but the T-star is an official Texas A&M logo and therefore we should be allowed to display it on the B12 page. I would like to change it back in a few days and hope you will allow us to keep it there for all to see.

[edit] Student Association of Missouri changed again

Hi, I noticed that you had previously made reversions on the Student Association of Missouri page. I don't know anything about the subject and am still new to the wiki, but I thought I'd let you know it's been changed again, prob. for the worse. I thought you might want to take a look. --StarGeek 22:02, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Allison Janney.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Allison Janney.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Note that any unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 18:10, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Use of Fair Use Logos

Your addition of the Nebraska Logo on Bob Devaney was not in compliance with the Fair Use guideline at Wikipedia. I removed the image from the article. Please do not add logos to articles like this -- it is in clear violation of the policy. See the page and guidelines for more information. Continuing to do this could result in a block. It's okay. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. No harm no foul. MECUtalk 02:12, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Bill Callahan NU.jpg

Hey BCV . There is a lively debate about use of promo photos on wikipedia. My name is Jeff and I Do not support the interpretation of WP:FU as implemented by user's like User:Chowbok. They believe that Wikipedia should be free of all promotional photos that are "replaceable with an equivalent" (i.e. an amateur photo from flickr). Their rationale is being debated in many places, and take it a step further believing that all promo photos should be deleted and let someone else deal with finding and uploading a free alternative.

And many other places I've no doubt missed.

I and many others who support use of fair use promotional photos have not been successful in changing the actions of Chowbok and rampant deletion and changing of many hundred's of useful images from Wikipedia articles continues. One good example is the Jennifer Granholm article which had a great promo photo replaced by a terrible photo. I seek to raise the profile of this issue through challenging promotional photos on high profile article's like this one. I'm sorry, really I am, but fair use policy as implemented by Chowbok has left me with few viable options.

I invite you to join the battle for Promotional Photo usage on Wikipedia and the protection of Fair Use concepts. --Jeff 08:01, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] William Cohen

I'm willing to take the photograph image to arbitration, since you are single-handedly deciding that old photographgs are more appropriate than updated photographs. I think you'll lose, after all, his latest endeavor is as a published author and an encyclopedia is only as useful as it is updated. If you wish to revert back to a photograph that no longer resembles Mr. Cohen in his advanced age, as he continues to contribute to the public sphere, then I'll take it to arbitration myself and ask for a new policy on images. As you can see from my User page, I probably feel more strongly about the use of photographs than you. --DavidShankBone 15:06, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] William Cohen Part II

I also remind you that if you revert the edit I made, you are in violation of wikipedia policy. You should review http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_arbitration - I have, and I have followed it. --DavidShankBone 15:11, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dulé_Hill.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Dulé_Hill.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sandstein 13:08, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
