Bayern Munich II (formerly Bayern Munich Amateure) are the second team of German football club Bayern Munich. They play in the Regionalliga Süd, at the third level of German football, and have done so since the Regionalliga was formed in 1994. Generally, they have been one of the strongest teams at this level, usually finishing in the top half, although they are unable to get promoted as German reserve teams cannot play higher than the third tier. The team represents the final step between Bayern's youth setup and the first-team, and is usually made up of promising youngsters between the age of 18 and 23, with a few older players drafted in to provide experience.
[edit] Stadium
Bayern II play at the Stadion an der Grünwalderstraße, which had been the first-team's stadium until the opening of the Olympiastadion in 1972. In common with other German second teams, attendances are often below 1,000, usually variable on the away team's following.
