Bayakoa Handicap

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bayakoa Handicap is a race for thoroughbred horses run at Hollywood Park each year. The race is open to filles and mares, aged three and up, willing to race one and one-sixteenth miles on the dirt. A Grade II event, it offers a purse of $150,000.

The race is named in honor of Bayakoa (Arg), 1984, by Consultant's Bid (Bold Bidder) out of Arlucea (Arg). Trained by Ron McNally and owned by Janis and Frank Whitham, Bayakoa had career earnings of $2,861,701 in 39 starts (21 wins, 9 seconds, 0 thirds). She won back-to-back Eclipse Awards as North America's outstanding older female horse in 1989 and 1990, winning the Breeder's Cup Distaff in both of those years.
