[edit] State Championships
The conference has produced many state champions within the past couple of years. For the second consecutive year, a Bay Conference member has won the Division 1 Girls Basketball Championship. Ashwaubenon winning it in 2006 and De Pere High School winning it in 2005. In March of 2006, Seymour's Boys Basketball team won its 3rd Division 2 state title. They have made it the state title game the last 7 years, winning it twice. In November of 2005, the Ashwaubenon Jaguars won their 4th Division 2 Football Championship. In the Spring of 2006, the Ashwaubenon Jaguars won the WIAA State Softball Championship. Ashwaubenon became the first high school in the state of Wisconsin to win three state championships in the same school year. Marinette also won a state championship in football in 1989 with Jeff Messenger taking State Football Player of the Year honors.
[edit] Rivalries
One of the biggest rivalries in the Bay Conference is De Pere vs. Ashwaubenon. In 2005, the De Pere Redbirds football team beat the Ashwaubenon Jaguars, 38-7, for the first time since 1996. De Pere went on to go undefeated in the regular season and win the Bay Conference title. Ashwaubenon went on to win the Division 2 State Championship as they did the last time that De Pere beat them. In Girls Basketball, the De Pere Redbirds recorded only 2 losses in the 2004-2005 season, both to Ashwaubenon. In the Sectional Final, De Pere finally beat Ashwaubenon, 43-37, and eventually won state. In 2006, the Ashwaubenon Jaguars lost twice to De Pere in the regular season and beat De Pere in the Sectional Final on its way to winning the state title.
