Talk:Battersea

[edit] Pronunciation
I know how Battersea is pronounced, but I've heard that some of the more snooty residents pronounce it as "Bat-TER-see-A" in an attempt to make it sound less common. Presumably just a joke? (The same person claimed something similar for Clapham - "Clahm"). --Bob Mellish 18:46, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
- That joke/urban myth has been around for at least 20 years. Also Stockwell as "St. Ockwell" Jooler 19:49, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
There was also the more insidious estate agent's euphemism "South Chelsea". Robert Hogan (knew Battersea when it was still a Borough!)
I'd like to start use of "Tweeny" for those living in South Battersea, from the estate agent's use of "Between the Commons"
[edit] If there's ever a subsection on Battersea in fiction...
it should be noted that a Battersea Stadium is the home of the London Kings baseball team until 2042, as noted in the Star Trek novel Federation by Garfield and Judith Reeves-Stevens. RahadyanS 15:34, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
