The Battle was fought between the Army of Willendorf, led by King Ottmar and Kain, and the Legions of the Nemesis, led by the Nemesis himself. The battle took place on hilly fields surrounded by forests somewhere north of Willendorf. The battle, at first, seemed to favor Ottmar's army, but when the good king was killed, the tide turned.

Knowing the battle could not be won and Nosgoth was doomed to conquer at the hands of the Nemesis, Kain traveled back in time and murdered the Nemesis, who was then known as William the Just, as a young man. Upon returning to the present, Kain found that the Battle of the Last Stand had never taken place, but instead, Kain himself had sparked a genocidal crusade against vampires when he had killed William the Just.
