[edit] Plot
The Annual Invention Fair is on its way, with its mandatory student participation. Kuzco's "no-talky" machine does not meet with Mr. Moleguaco's approval, although Malina finds it useful. After talking with Kronk, Kuzco hits on the idea of stealing one of Yzma's inventions, despite Malina's disapproval. Dragging Malina down to the lab with him, the two come across Woodbot, which is exactly what it sounds like, and very large.
After Kuzco activates Woodbot and loses control, Yzma arrives in the lab and confronts the two intruders. Yzma declines Kuzco's request for help, preferring to see him get into trouble and fail. When the Woodbot bursts through a wall and heads towards the school, Kuzco and Malina give chase. Kuzco comes up with the idea of creating a Rockbot in order to defeat the rogue Woodbot, prompting Malina to stall it while he effects the construction.
Upon the Woodbot's arrival at the school, the two machines go to battle, with the Rockbot the victor. Kuzco is offered the first prize in the Invention Fair, but confesses to his earlier intention to cheat. He does not fail, but the first prize is instead awarded to Kronk for inventing the bucket handle.
[edit] Trivia
- UK Premiere: 26 March 2006
- Kuzco reads "comic scrolls", obviously analoguous to comic books.
- Among the students' inventions are a coffee maker, a cell phone, and of course robots.
- The robots, the way they battle, and the finishing moves are all based on those of the famous children's toy Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.
- Yzma uses an alternate entrance to the lab, a twisted fireman's pole. She still arrives in the traditional outfit.
- There is a height requirement for the secret lab's rollercoaster.
- Rudy (the old man who throws off Kuzco's groove in the first movie) makes an appearance, apparently as the Academy's janitor.
- Kuzco gets turned into: Nothing.
- "Pull the lever" gag: No lever gag. Kuzco breaks into the lab, and takes Malina along for the ride. After being thrown from the cart and landing, Malina is wearing the usual lab coat, goggles and pointed hair, but Kuzco has a jack-o-lantern-like barrel strapped to him, to which Kuzco remarks that "they must have run out of secret lab costumes".
- There is clearly a knack to using the lever, as the rotating wall section is left ajar after Kuzco uses it. This may have rendered it temporarily useless, as Yzma uses an alternative entrance.
- Oddly enough, Kronk's new invention was the bucket handle, but it was seen on a bucket that Pacha was holding in the previous episode Cart Wash.
- Bucky appears: as the titular character in the "Bucky Blastoff" comic scroll. Kuzco uses issue #107 for inspiration in builiding the Rockbot.
- "Kuzco's doodles": Kuzco describes the design and creation of the Rockbot.
