The Battle of the Bay of Viipuri was a battle in the Finnish-Soviet Continuation War (1941-1944).
The Battle took place when the Soviet 59th Army attacked across the islands of the Bay of Viipuri from July 4, 1944, on. The Soviet attack to the Finnish mainland was thrown back to the sea by the German 122nd Division of the V AK on July 10, 1944.
Although the Finnish troops had abandoned the Finnish city of Viipuri only shortly before - only using delaying tactics -, from here on all the remaining major battles of the Continuation War were to end in decisive Finnish defense victories.
