Battle of Saumur (1940)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Battle of Saumur occurred during the last stages of the Battle of France. Officer students led by Colonel Michon, and equipped with their instruction weapons, opposed the advance of German troops on four bridges of the Loire. Since it occurred after the message by Pétain calling for an end to fighting (17 June 1940), the event is considered as one of the first acts of the French Resistance.
