The Battle of Odessa was part of the Soviet-German War in 1941. It was mainly conducted by Romanian forces which were allied to the Germans. Due to the heavy resistance of the Red Army forces in Odessa, it took the Romanian army three months of siege and four attempts to take the city, during which they suffered heavy losses. The Red Army forces were finally evacuated on 14 October 1941 leaving behind organized resistance that would terrorize German, Romanian and Italian forces during occupation.
