Battle of Hundsfeld

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Battle of Hundsfeld was allegedly fought in 1109 between the Holy Roman Empire and Poland. The Imperial forces were led by Emperor Henry V, and the Polish forces — by Bolesław III Wrymouth. The result was a Polish victory.

The battle (known in Polish as the "Battle of Psie Pole") took place in a field that is now the Psie Pole ("Dogs' Field") district of the Polish city of Wrocław. The field was so named by the later Polish chronicler Wincenty Kadłubek after the "dogs which, devouring so many corpses [of the fallen], fell into a mad ferocity, so that no one dared venture there."
