The Battle of Hill 723 occurred during the South Vietnamese invasion of Laos in 1971. The battle lasted from March 7 to March 16 when the ARVN was defeated by the North Vietnamese Army.

When the South Vietnamese Army moved towards Hill 723 along Route 9 on March 7, VPA artillery quickly pinned down the advancing South Vietnamese. The ARVN 1st Infantry Division was trapped as the northern flank was closed and the main column was cut off. Attempts by the 2nd and 3rd Regiments to reinforce the 1st Infantry Division was fruitless, as a result, ARVN forces were nearly wiped out.
