Battle of Bratislava refers to three successive battles fought at Brezalauspurc (today Bratislava in Slovakia) on July 4-5 and August 9, 907. A Bavarian margrave was defeated by the Magyars.
[edit] Battle
Margrave Luitpold of Bavaria built up his army and attempted to score a decisive victory against the Magyars, who had just defeated the Slavic empire of Great Moravia and threatened other countries in the region. The Bavarian army was divided into three battle groups. They were crushed under Bratislava Castle and a large part of Luitpold`s army was destroyed. The Bavarian casualties included the Margrave, three bishops and 19 barons.
[edit] Results
After that, the Hungarian tribes were free to pillage the entire Ostmark and the remains of Great Moravia. The Hungarian threat was halted only in 955 when Otto I the Great won a decisive victory at the Battle of Lechfeld, which brought internal stability to the German lands.
