The Battle of Beaune-la-Rolande on November 28, 1870 was a defeat for the French during the Franco-Prussian War.
The battle began when 9,000 Prussian troops under Friedrich Franz II attacked 60,000 French troops under General Crouzat. The French assailed the German position, but the Prussians succeeded in maintaining their ground, driving off the French. The French lost around 8,000 soldiers, while the Germans only lost 817 soldiers and 37 officers.
