Battle Arena Toshinden 3 for the PSX is a fighting game and sequel of Battle Arena Toshinden 2 and Battle Arena Toshinden.

Toshinden 3 is the first of the main series not to be ported to other platforms. It is the only game in the series that has gameplay differences between the Japanese version and subsequent U.S and E.U releases. The U.S and E.U versions also feature a couple of new game play modes.

Whereas Toshinden 2 largely built upon the original Toshinden, Toshinden 3 radically changes the series gameplay. Most notably the arenas are now enclosed allowing players to launch opponents into the walls and ceilings in order to juggle them with further attacks. The combo system has also been reworked and now each character has a preset list of combos (though skillful players can use specific combos to allow further attacks through juggling them).

The game also adds a huge 17 new fighters bringing the total to 32 (a couple of characters from the last game were dropped). Though some of these are largely mirror images of other fighters in fighting styles.

[edit] Story

Unknown to the participants, while the previous "tournament" was occurring they were being watched by another sinister group known as the Organization.

The Organization intended to summon the Toshin (the god of fighting) itself to earth in order to conquer it.

In order to do this they needed a pure hearted boy to use as a vessel and the blood of strong fighters.

For the former they had been secretly raising a boy called David through an orphanage.

For the later, they choose the Toshinden fighters. The Organization trained several assassins in the Toshinden fighters fighting styles. Led by Vermillion they went out to try to capture the Toshinden fighters...
