Battle Angel (銃夢 GUNNM?) is an OVA based on the Battle Angel Alita (known as GUNNM in Japan) manga by Yukito Kishiro. The OVA is comprised of two episodes, Rusty Angel and Tears Sign, that serve as a compressed preview for the manga. The OVA spawned a memorable soundtrack including the theme song and "Cyborg Mermaid". Although it received a lukewarm reception in Japan, U.S. critics held it to be one of the best animes to be translated and brought to America in the 1990s. The UK version is just a single movie.

[edit] Differences between the OVA and manga
The character of Chiren is unique to the anime, not appearing in the manga. Grewcica is an amalgamation of the Makaku and Kinuba characters from the manga.
In its translation, ADV Films used the Japanese names for Tiphares and the Scrapyard as well as several characters. These names differ from the names used by Viz Media in its translation of the manga. There are also slight differences in other character names used. The equivalent anime and manga names are outlined below.
