Battarmulla is a suburb within the kotte municipal limits. It is situated 5.2 miles from Colombo.

Battaramulla was previously governed by a separate municipal structure, which was dissolved and the town and pelewatte attached to the kotte Municipal Council. The larger portion of Battaramulla (koswatte and beyond) was attached to the Kaduwela Pradeshya Sabha.

A notable expatriate population lives in Battaramula. The area is also home to numerous Ministries, Government departments and boards.
