Bats Day in the Fun Park, which is also known as Bats Day, Goth Day, Bats Day in the Park and Bats Day Out, started in August 1999 between the promoters of the goth/industrial & deathrock clubs, Absynthe and Release the Bats. It has turned into a 3-day weekend event which happens toward the end of August, near Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.

Bats Day in the Fun Park consists of 4 events:

The Bats Day Black Market - A large gathering of vendors selling extra spooky items for that extra spooky person in one's life. Merchandise being exibited and sold include: clothing, music, artwork, books, collectables, toys other original dark genre items.

The Bats Day Creepy Cocktail Party - Catered Hors D’oeuvres cocktail party with live entertainment and DJ's.

The Nightmare Before Bats Day Dinner Meet & Greet - A full sit down dinner event, with live entertainment and DJ's.

Bats Day in the Fun Park - The Big Spooky Trip to Disneyland, CA.

Accommodations, entertainment and vendor events are located at the designated official hotel and conference center for that year.

All of these events occur toward the end of August each year.

The origins of the event started as a relatively small goth "meet up" event. Over the last nine years, it has evolved to include more aspects of the Goth subculture. Many other dark subcultures who attend this event include, Horror Punk, Horror Rock, Halloween, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Black Metal, Hearse Societies, Industrial and EBM.

This 3 day festival draws people from all over the world. Not only do people from California attend this event, they come from all over the country and world. People travel to attend from many states such as Florida, New York, Texas, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and Chicago, as well as many people traveling from various countries outside of the US. Most popular outside of the US attendees travel from New Zealand, England, Brazil, France, Germany and Mexico. This event has evolved into a family friendly event, as well. Parents in this subculture are able to further bond with their children at an event such as this one at the "Happiest Place on Earth" whereas they might be regarded as an outcast on other weekends at Disneyland or other theme parks.

All events culminate in a Spooky Trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA on the last sunday of the festival.

Information about this dark subculture 3 day event, as well as photos, from the prior years can be found on the official website.
