As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Batlagundu had a population of 22,007. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Batlagundu has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 54% of the males and 46% of females literate. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Subramanya Siva (04.10.1884 to 23.07.1925)
The famous & forgotten patriot Shri. Subrahmanya Siva was born in this town. He was an eloquent speaker and was a friend of Bharathiar & V.O.C.
The relentless freedom fighter and heroic patriot Subramanya Siva chose Papparapatti village in Pennagaram taluk as the center of activities during his last years of life. He came to Papparapatti in 1921. Though his efforts to establish a Bharatashram at Papparapatti did not materialize, the land donated to him for this purpose is still used for public purposes and has in it the samadhi of Subramanya Siva. Despite his illness and the severe restrictions imposed on him by the British government, he did a lot in enlightening the people in political matters and introducing order in their public life. Through his dramas and bhajans, he sought to bring about consciousness among the people of their rich tradition and culture. He was the author of the journal Jnanabhanu. The books Ramanuja Vijayam and Madhya vijayam were written by him.
Subramanya Siva died on Jul 23, 1925.

People from Batlagundu town are becoming popular over the world. The Argument Show called "Pattimandram" started from this area only. Dindigul Leony, Gnanasambantham, Mu.RA, Venmani, Mullai Nadavarasu, Suba. Marimuthu and lot of other are started from this area only. Now they are very busy over the world.

People and organisation from Batlagundu are involving themselves in lot of social activities such as helping poor, running trust and more. Mr.Rajamani, a retired teacher (He served Govt Higher Secondary School, Batlagundu as Zoology Teacher and was an active member of Lions Club)involving himself in such activities and even organising people in a way to help society. He is a good Musician too. He is the secretary of a special forum called "Zhagara Pani Mandram". Also, Mr. Ponnusamy, the former President of Lions Club has initated / completed the construction of a separate building for Lions Club. He has also gave his land and raw materials for its construction. In his period, the Lions Club has helped many school students, orphans and other poor people. "Parasparam Trust" is one a trust located a nearby village of Batlagundu. The trust helps the semi urban girl children. "CHANARD" is another trust having their branches in Theni, Periyakulam, Andipatti, Kodaikanal, Bodi and Kumbum. They are involving in helping women self help groups, organic farming, AIDS prevention and waste land Development. The Directory of the trust is Mr.A.Thangamuthu and the Secretary is Mr.KrishnaMoorthy.

Batlagundu is known for its Basketball game. For every Pongal festival there will be a National level Basketball Match, which is highly acclaimed by the state. The local players from Batlagundu Basketball team(officially called as "Young Star Basketball Club") are playing in various club teams across India. Loyola, St.Joseph, Railway, Indian National Team, are some of them. The reason behind this sport spirit is the Stadium which was built in early 60's in the Government School, Batlagundu. The Sports teacher Mr.Arockiasamy, Mr.Bose and Mr.Peter were the main pillars to develop the sports in this region.

Mr.Mohan (Son of Mr.Mokkaichamy Conductor, TNSTC), is running Vivekananda Tution Centre in Old Batlagundu for the needy and poor children in that locality. The fees ranges from Rs 5 and stretch at the Maximum of Rs 20. Ths Institution was started on early 2002 with a initial strength of 15 kids, and now it has nearly 400 students. He boosted the Higher Secondary Passing Percentage in tat locality. Career Guidance is also being Provided for the students. Now he registered his institution as a Trust under the act of Govt of India. Mohan's school life seems to be very interesting. He was good in Tamil, Science and Socila Science subjets. His biggest enemy is English and Maths. As most of the Graduation courses are being taught in English, he chosn a course which is purely on Tamil. He scored just average marks in SSLC and HSS. In those dys he was a very playfull guy, with his local friends. But at one point of time when he t\thought about his own future, he cme to know that there are so many young stars are still suffering for a basic school education. So he planned to uplift his own society. But how? He doesnt have even a good acadamic Back ground. He joined hands with his friends who were well educated and working in the near by location and started the institution, and made it as a great success. That much popularity he has.
