Bathynomus giganteus is a species of aquatic crustacean, of the order Isopoda. Its chief distinguishing feature is its great size compared to other isopods; specimens of up to 45 cm long have been known.

In the novel Deception Point by Dan Brown, this creature was mistakenly classified as having come from outer space via a fraud meteorite, and thus proving the theory of Panspermia.
